Client Story: Nathan

Arrival

Nathan accepted Islam two-years ago and after having difficulties at home, found himself homeless and sleeping his car for 3-weeks. Nathan went to the Valley Ranch Islamic Center (VRIC) and through Ma’ruf Dallas’ partnership with VRIC, was referred to us. Nathan met his case manager weekly and informed them that he was let-go from his job as an Assistant Club Manager for a fitness club because he was now homeless. His faith in Allah was strong, but his outlook on his situation was becoming dim.

Assistance

Working through his Case Manager, Ma’ruf Dallas immediately got Nathan a hotel room with kitchen so he could have a roof over his head and food to nourish him, while the search for an apartment began. Once we found him an apartment, Ma’ruf Dallas provided rental assistance, as well as weekly groceries from our Food Pantry. Nathan also received a Home Welcome Package to make his move into his new apartment more complete. Nathan’s Case Manager saw great potential in him and enrolled him in the Medical Assistant program as part of Training for the Future.

Achievements

Nathan graduated from the Medical Assistant program and immediately got a job at Parkland Hospital in the Cardiology department. He has been excelling and enjoying his new career, but more importantly, he expressed a desire to give back. As a result, Nathan has been mentoring other clients in the Training for the Future program and also assisting them with resume building.
