Client Story: Mohammed

Arrival

Mohammed and his family of eight, consisting of 3 generations, escaped the devastation in Syria as refugees and initially resettled in North Carolina when they arrived in the US. Shortly after, they decided to move to Dallas as they heard of the large Syrian community here. Mohammed’s family here includes his elderly parents, wife and his five beautiful children.

Assistance

After arriving in Dallas, Mohammed worked as an Uber driver, and came to Ma’ruf Dallas to seek guidance on how to better support his family. He received assistance through our Food Pantry and a referral to a construction company that was hiring. One day, while working on the roof of a home, he fell, breaking his back and ribs. Ma’ruf Dallas was there to support Mohammed and his family throughout his recovery from his devastating injury by providing rental assistance, utility bill assistance, food assistance and helping them apply for food stamps and Medicaid.

Achievements

After Mohammed’s recovery, his Case Manager recommended he enroll in our inaugural class for the Training for the Future program. Mohammed was a stellar student, receiving praise from all his instructions, and graduated as a Licensed Electrician in February 2022. Now, he has been working for QDFW Solar, installing solar systems throughout the area!
