Ahmad Abou Shear’s Family
Background
The Abou Shear family, a family of six, arrived in the U.S. in December 2023, seeking a fresh start after facing difficult circumstances. The father, a skilled professional with over 20 years of experience in running a trailer shop and providing chiropractic care, is eager to support his family but was in limbo waiting for essential documents like his Social Security card, food stamps, and Medicaid. The family is living in a challenging environment and urgently needs basic household goods to create a safe and stable home.
Services
The family received immediate support, including a welcome package, food boxes, and enrollment in our Training for the Future program, where the father is pursuing his medical assistant certification to return to his passion for helping others. While he focuses on his studies, we’ve provided vital assistance by covering the family’s rent and utilities, ensuring they have the stability needed to rebuild their lives.
Future Plan
The father is now completing his externship hours, practicing his newly acquired skills at a partnering clinic. He is excited to secure a job soon and provide for his family, moving closer to achieving stability and independence.

Zabiullah Paymani’s Family
Background
The Paymani family, originally from Afghanistan, crossed the border with almost nothing, seeking safety and stability. The family of seven, including five young children, stayed with a relative in a cramped one-bedroom apartment shared by 10 people. Without food stamps or consistent meals, they struggled to meet even their most basic needs. The father, a survivor of a devastating bomb blast, faced ongoing medical challenges, while his mother required urgent care as well. Their situation was dire, and they needed immediate support to begin rebuilding their lives.
Services
They were provided with a bike for transportation, a welcome package of essentials, SIM cards to stay connected, and therapy to address their trauma. They also received rental assistance to ease their financial burden, and the father secured a cash job at a meat processing facility, giving the family a small but vital step toward stability. These efforts brought hope and relief as they worked to overcome their challenges.
Future Plan
With the children now in school and the family making steady progress, the Paymani family is on the difficult but hopeful path to being granted full asylum. Their resilience, combined with the support they’ve received, is helping them move closer to a stable future in the United States.
